Gina Shuster, LCSW, LMSW
Founder and Clinical Director
She/Her
Hi, I'm Gina Shuster and I am a licensed mental health therapist in Utah and Michigan. I am passionate about helping you on your journey to better mental health and wellness. Throughout my career, I have had the immense privilege of meeting people who demonstrate more strength, grace and determination than most would consider possible. I have seen the limits of the human spirit tested and I have witnessed time and time again the triumph of that spirit. It would be my honor to walk alongside you as you experience your own triumph.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Utah and a Licensed Master's Social Worker in the state of Michigan. I am the founder and director of Alpenglow Counseling and Wellness, a mental health therapy clinic in North Ogden, Utah. I am available to see clients both in-person and via telehealth video.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children; exploring the beauty and wonder that is Utah. I also love to read, paint and bake.
Welcome to Alpenglow Counseling and Wellness! I'm so glad you are here!
What is an Alpenglow?
The Alpenglow is an optical phenomenon that appears as a reddish-orange glow near the horizon opposite to the sun. It can occur just before sunrise or just after sunset when there is a tiny window of time where the reflected light from the setting or rising sun is so bright that it makes the mountains look like they are on fire. In order for this phenomenon to occur, the light must outshine the many obstacles in its path. When the sun is closest to the horizon, it must pass through far more atmosphere than when it’s high in the sky during the middle of the day. There is no direct path for the sun to reach the mountain. As light passes through all that atmosphere, it encounters dust, precipitation, ice crystals and aerosols. These obstacles serve as a kind of filter that makes the light softer. These particles cause the sun’s blue and violet wavelengths to be thrown back allowing more light from the orange and red end of the spectrum to pass through. This glow doesn’t come from the mountain itself, but the conditions around it. The mountain simply stands there, tall and steady, waiting for the light to reach it.
Many times in life we feel like the obstacles we face dim our light so low that only darkness remains. At Alpenglow Counseling and Wellness, we want to remind you that you don’t have to “do life” on your own. Sometimes the most beautiful healing happens when we let go and allow the obstacles and challenges of life to soften us and let light shine upon us. Just like the mountain needs the sun, water, ice and other particles to form the perfect Alpenglow, people need the support of others, as well as the development of healthy coping skills, self-awareness, and healthy personal boundaries to help us shine our brightest. Alpenglow Counseling and Wellness is here to help you achieve just that.
Alpenglow Counseling and Wellness seeks to be a safe place for all. All cultures, all sizes, all colors, all genders, all religions are welcome here.
